Dr. Wen-Bin Jian got his PhD degree in Physics from National Taiwan University, Taiwan in 2002. He took the postdoctoral researcher position of Academia Sinica (Taiwan) in 2002 and of Advanced Materials Research Institute, University of New Orleans (New Orleans USA) in 2003. After the postdoctoral experiences, he joined Department of Physics, National Chung Hsing University, being an assistant professor since 2003. In 2004, he moved on to join Department of Electrophysics, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). Doctor Jian got promoted to be a full professor since August 2011.
Due to his efforts in research and teaching, Dr. Jian was awarded with Zasshikai Lectureship by Department of Chemistry, University of Tokyo, Japan in 2014 and he got best teaching awards of NCTU in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2016. In his service to the community, he was appointed as the director for the division of research and planning, office of research and development (ORD), NCTU since February 2015. In August 2017, he was appointed as an associate vice president for ORD of NCTU.
Dr. Jian was working in surface science in his Ph. D. program training period. He was an expert in scanning tunneling microscope. He earned experiences in home-made nanoscale microscopes. In his postdoctoral period, Dr. Jian moved on to work on nanoscience. He worked with Prof. Jiye Fang on the field of magnetic property characterizations of semiconductor nanoparticles by using SQUID. He established a laboratory, Nano and Quantum Phenomena Laboratory since 2013 and he set up four directions of research fields, including the ferromagnetism in Co-doped ZnO nanowires, field-effect transistors and electron transport in nanowires, self-assembled nanoparticles, and home making of research instruments.
Doctor Jian’s research interests consist of electron transport, field-effect transport, and thermoelectric transport of electrons in low-dimensional systems including zero-dimensional (0D) quantum dots, one-dimensional nanowires (1D), and two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets (2D materials). He currently focuses on 2D materials including graphene, MoS2, black phosphorous, WSe2, ReSe2, and TaS2. In addition, he is interested in biomaterials like Ni-DNA nanowires. He works with Profs. Chia-Ching Chang and Yu-Chang Chen in the bio-related research field. On the other hand, he develops many commercial products of instruments including scanning tunneling microscope, demagnetizer, electro-explored nanoparticle generator, transmission optical microscope, and many other automatic machines.
Doctor Jian has published 55 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, including Nano Lett., ACS Nano, Nanoscale, Phys. Rev. Lett., J. Am. Chem. Soc., and ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces. The total citation number of all the publications is about 1200, giving an average citation of 21 and h-index of 17.
